Whether it’s blaring stereo systems, ear-shattering building work or revving engines, data has revealed the London boroughs with the most noise complaints.

While Kensington and Chelsea may be famed for its elegant homes and garden squares, day-to-day life appears less serene, with residents frequently reporting disturbances.

The posh neighbourhood has the highest rate of complaints in England, according to research by Cash House Buyers at Sell House Fast.

The study, using Fingertips data, identified the borough as the noisiest in England, with 65.3 complaints per 1,000 residents. It narrowly edged out neighbouring Hammersmith and Fulham, which recorded 64.5 complaints per 1,000 people.

A spokesperson said: “Kensington and Chelsea may be known for elegant terraces, leafy garden squares, and some of the most desirable postcodes in London, but beneath that polished image, daily life comes with its fair share of disruption.”

Islington ranked third, followed by Haringey and Southwark. Lambeth, Camden, Barking and Dagenham, Hackney, and Redbridge also made the top 10.

The study found that nine of the 10 loudest areas in England are in London. Nottingham was the only city outside the capital to appear in the ranking, with 21.3 complaints per 1,000 residents.

Noise pollution remains a persistent problem nationwide, with more than 305,000 complaints recorded across England and Wales between 2024 and 2025.
