London is set to host a fresh half marathon route, with the course showcasing the distinctive character of Shoreditch, Hoxton and Stoke Newington.
The Saucony Run Shoreditch occasion will welcome more than 10,000 competitors to tackle the 13.1-mile course through numerous vibrant city neighbourhoods.
Set to take place on September 20, the race winds through Hoxton, Clissold Park, Stoke Newington Church Street, Newington Green and De Beauvoir, commencing and finishing close to Shoreditch Park.
The diverse neighbourhoods featured along the route are expected to provide varied ambiances, with onlookers cheering runners along some of the capital’s most lively and cosmopolitan thoroughfares. A dedicated event hub will occupy Shoreditch Park, complete with catering units, musical performances and further leisure activities.
Event director Emily Whitaker remarked that the objective was to create a route feeling swift and accessible.
The course guides participants through some of the locality’s most well-known areas while keeping changes in elevation to a minimum, making it suitable for those chasing a personal record or tackling the half marathon distance for the first occasion. The anticipation is high to see Shoreditch come alive on race day.
The course has been characterised as largely level, with overall elevation nearly equivalent to the Hackney Half, which similarly falls under the umbrella of Motiv Sports UK. Other significant highways incorporated into the debut route include Essex Road, St. Pauls Road, Queen’s Drive and Albion Road.
Newington Green has been recognised as a particularly advantageous location for spectators, allowing views of runners at several points throughout the competition. The event is anticipated to generate substantial economic impact for nearby districts, with thousands of participants and supporters supporting local coffee shops, shops and public spaces.
Motiv Sports UK is partnering closely with community groups and athletics clubs to ensure the half marathon produces positive and lasting outcomes for surrounding areas.
Previous editions of the event functioned as 10k contests, meaning this year marks the first opportunity for runners to complete the half marathon distance. Individuals still wishing to take part in the inaugural Saucony Run Shoreditch Half Marathon can register via www.runshoreditch.com.
