A fresh addition is set to energise Shoreditch’s vinyl landscape.
Situated within Old St. Records and managed by London-based dealer, DJ and promoter Cigarette Records, music enthusiasts now have another spot to explore in east London.
The launch collection features approximately 5,000 records, with ambitions to grow to 10,000. The inventory covers disco, funk, soul, reggae, house, garage, jungle, and rock styles.
Howard Taylor, co-founder of Rocket Leisure—the hospitality group operating Old St. Records—stated that music serves as the foundation of the venue, making a record shop a logical extension.
This offers visitors another avenue to connect with music beyond live performances and DJ sets, focusing instead on browsing, uncovering hidden gems and building collections. Partnering with Cigarette Records proved ideal.
The curation demonstrates depth, discernment and genuine cultural roots. This represents more than a retail addition—it aims to create something that embodies the ethos of Old St. Records and the broader music scene surrounding it.
The collection comes from Cigarette Records founder Owain Jones, a trader with over 15 years working in record dealing, DJing and music programming. His selections move fluidly between well-known classics, underground finds, club releases, scarce pressings and unconventional treasures.
Jones explained that everything stems from a single principle: music that carries emotion. Record shops thrive on discovery, dialogue and community alongside the physical records themselves.
This partnership with Old St. Records simply fits. The range will traverse disco, funk, soul, reggae, garage, jungle, punk, rock, pop and beyond—though connection remains the constant theme.
Jones expressed enthusiasm for creating something that develops into both a vinyl destination and an expanded musical community.
The shop aspires to be more than a retail space. Proposals include hosting workshops, listening events, artist-led sessions and community-focused gatherings.
Trading hours are Thursday through Saturday, noon to 6pm. Further details can be found at oldstreetrecords.com.
