Deputy Principal Matt Wojtyniak on Transforming Hackney Sixth Form Campus

Every young person deserves the opportunity to flourish

When Matt Wojtyniak discusses Hackney Sixth Form Campus, one concept dominates the conversation – possibility.

In his role as Deputy Principal, he is committed to providing local young people with self-assurance, guidance and excellent education so they can reach demanding targets. Since the campus joined New City College in 2024, he reports that this ambition is quickly materialising.

He acknowledges that some community members may still recall the campus from previous years, but emphasises that significant changes have occurred that they might not be aware of. Being integrated into New City College has resulted in improvements across every aspect of the campus. The institution dedicates itself to assisting every learner while implementing the elevated standards, drive and prospects that accompany membership in one of London’s major college groups.

This transformation is already producing noteworthy outcomes.

New City College received an Outstanding rating from Ofsted in 2025, and Hackney Sixth Form Campus is gaining from the knowledge and resources available throughout the college group. Students benefit from skilled instruction, comprehensive pastoral care and a practical curriculum, offering them clear routes into skilled work, apprenticeships and higher education.

According to Matt, the campus has established an environment where students feel genuinely valued. The staff maintain elevated expectations because they recognise that young people can accomplish remarkable things. The expectation for strong attendance, timeliness and dedication exists because these qualities help students perform well during their college years and throughout their working lives.

The effects are already visible across the campus.

Retention and achievement figures have climbed substantially, with student results now standing considerably above the national average. More learners are obtaining top grades and moving forward toward a prosperous future.

For Matt, achievement extends far beyond examination scores. The goal is for every student to depart with self-assurance, determination and the abilities that employers and universities seek. While academic achievement matters, so does the personal growth of a young person. Significant resources go into student wellbeing because when young people feel cared for, they prosper.

This nurturing atmosphere represents one of the campus’s strongest attributes. Students from all backgrounds receive a warm welcome and feel included. Hackney is a varied borough and the campus takes pride in reflecting that diversity. Students rapidly become members of a college community where they feel secure, valued and motivated to set ambitious targets.

For the first time, Hackney Sixth Form now provides programmes at Levels 1, 2 and 3 throughout its offerings, enabling students to join at the appropriate level regardless of their GCSE results and advance gradually as they develop confidence and abilities. Industry-relevant T Levels and vocational programmes spanning Science, Business, IT, Creative Media, Early Years and Health and Social Care provide every learner with a clear route to achievement, complemented by specialist careers guidance throughout.

Matt considers parents to be essential partners, which is why he wants them to feel assured when selecting Hackney Sixth Form Campus.

Parents naturally want confirmation that their child will be secure, supported and given every chance to succeed. That is precisely what the campus is building. An experienced, devoted team who authentically care about each student’s future works diligently to help them realise their ambitions.

For families evaluating their options following GCSEs, Matt offers a straightforward message: this marks an exciting fresh phase for Hackney Sixth Form. The enhancements implemented are genuine, students are attaining excellent results and the institution is only beginning its journey.

Students receiving their GCSE results this summer can register at New City College Hackney Sixth Form from GCSE Results Day, Thursday 20 August.
