A man who killed his long-term partner by severing her head at their flat in Hoxton has passed away while incarcerated.
Dempsey Nibbs fatally attacked his companion of three decades, Judith Nibbs, at their residence on the Charles Estate in 2014.
Nibbs, who was incarcerated at HMP Belmarsh, passed away on July 26 this year aged 79, according to the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman (PPO).
An inquiry into his passing is currently taking place.
The former crane operator was handed a life sentence with a 21-year minimum term in 2016.
During his trial, Nibbs was suffering from prostate cancer.
The court heard that he suspected Judith, who worked for Hackney Council, of having relationships with other people.
The couple were not legally married but Judith had adopted Nibbs’ surname.
The defendant maintained he had acted in self-defence and referred to Ms Nibbs as a snake, but the jury dismissed his version of events.
The judge who sentenced him stated he was sure Nibbs did not regret his wife’s death save for its effect on his own comfort and well-being.
