A secondary school in east London has celebrated its best-ever GCSE performance.
The Urswick School recorded that 64 percent of pupils obtained grade 4 or higher in both English and mathematics, representing a 17-point jump compared with the previous two-year period.
These outcomes mark the inaugural set of results under new headteacher Dele Rotimi, who commenced the position in September 2025.
The headteacher expressed tremendous pride in the student body and thanked the dedicated staff, parents and relatives who embraced the fresh goals, ambitions and operational methods introduced throughout the academic year. He noted that the students responded exceptionally well, working diligently, rising to the challenge of setting their sights higher and benefiting from a framework that maintained confidence in their abilities and encouraged them to persist.
According to the headteacher, the results demonstrate what young people can accomplish when elevated expectations are paired with substantial levels of backing.
The institution pointed to the substantial improvement throughout the year, highlighting that at the beginning of Year 11, just 39 percent of the year group were meeting the grade 4 benchmark in English and mathematics.
Reuben Cousens emerged as the school’s leading scholar, attaining seven grade 9s alongside two grade 8s.
Rosie Turner-Lapsky, who secured three grade 9s, five grade 8s and a single grade 7, will be continuing her studies at the Urswick School Sixth Form Academy.
Wasim Ali, who obtained three grade 9s, four grade 8s and three grade 7s, also intends to pursue further education at the academy.
The school is now getting ready to receive numerous Year 11 pupils into the sixth form, which has received commendation for its impressive student advancement and welcoming atmosphere.
The school will hold an information evening for parents of children currently in Years 5 and 6 on Wednesday, September 16, between 5.30pm and 7.30pm. Attendance requires no advance reservation.
