A Stratford sports venue has confirmed it will shut its doors, expressing profound regret in its announcement.

The Sportsman shared the closure notice via its Facebook page this week.

The establishment indicated it would be serving its final drinks and saying goodbye on September 18.

The operators invited regular customers to farewell the staff, saying they would miss them.

They expressed gratitude for customer loyalty and all the wonderful moments, stating they felt equally devastated.

The announcement drew reactions of dismay from some followers, with one customer saying they were sorry to hear the news, recalling their last visit during the Joshua boxing match and noting how many pubs were closing down.

Another customer described it as very sad news, mentioning the memories created there.

The Campaign for Real Ale noted that the spacious venue on Broadway previously housed a Co-op department store before transforming into The Goose.

Following a renovation, it reopened under new management in 2018, promoting live sporting events across fourteen screens.

The establishment attracted West Ham supporters and offered cocktails, various beers, pizzas, light bites, burgers, and unlimited brunch packages.

Reviews praised the welcoming atmosphere, reasonable prices, pool table, friendly demeanor, and attentive service.

Tripadvisor users awarded the venue an average score of 4.4 out of 5. One reviewer described it as a lovely local welcome in a proper pub. Another said there were smiles and a warm welcome, which was brilliant.

The business operates under Great Local Pubs, a division of the Stonegate Group.

Stonegate representatives have been approached for comment.
