A fresh pizza venue set to shake up the city’s pizza scene is preparing to launch in a northern London culinary quarter next month.

God Save The Pizza will debut directly alongside Roberto Costa’s meat-centred dining establishment Macellaio RC in Exmouth Market.

The decorated Italian restaurateur intends to disrupt the softer, fluffier London-style pizza tradition by offering Roman-style flat, crispy sourdough bases.

Roberto Costa is launching God Save The Pizza in Exmouth Market on September 1, positioned next to his carnivore-focused restaurant Macellaio RC.

The venue will champion pizza as a showcase for top-quality produce, with the dough serving as the ideal foundation for premium toppings.

Menu selections at the restaurant, launching September 1, feature The Queen comprising tomato sauce, mozzarella cream, parmesan and basil oil, or Italy is Born showcasing GSTP marinara tomato sauce, garlic and oregano.

The Extremist includes ham, cheddar and pineapple, while guests can also construct their own pizza selecting base, sauce and cheese with up to four additional toppings complimentary.

The offerings will be organised into Original, Revolution, and Rebel sections, providing unconventional toppings alongside non-pizza dishes such as spicy lasagna.

Rebel pizzas take innovation furthest, headlined by the Meat Feast combining beef ragu, fiery spicy salami, red chilli and mozzarella.

Patrons can enjoy their Roman-style thin sourdough bases as an 8-inch individual pizzetta, a 14-inch sharing pizza, or a 12-inch gluten-free option, with every pizza cut into 8 portions to share.

Beyond pizza, the menu features a fiery spaghetti assasina sauce, plus accompaniments like Spicy Lasagna, Chicken Wings with curry sauce, Beetroot Hummus with pizza bread, Meat Chilli Jacket Potatoes, Potato Croquettes with aioli sauce and a Ferrero Rocher sundae.

Islington residents can also purchase take-home pizza preparation kits from the venue.

Interior design draws influence from the iconic Eros statue in Piccadilly Circus, where punk enthusiasts gathered during the early 1980s, featuring tiered seating, vivid graffiti and neon colour schemes, alongside a striking window of bright, puckered lips for quick slice purchases.

Born in Genova, Roberto Costa brings over 35 years of expertise, having helped establish fourteen restaurants throughout Italy before relocating to London to create Macellaio RC.

He stated that Exmouth Market provides the ideal setting for God Save The Pizza. The team takes pride in introducing a concept that defies tradition, honours outstanding ingredients and redirects attention to the topping. The belief is that this approach will transform how people perceive pizza.

God Save The Pizza will open on September 1 at 38-40 Exmouth Market EC1R.
