A fresh establishment named Marrion’s is scheduled to launch in Hackney this autumn, operated by one of the original founders of the former Norman’s Cafe in Tufnell Park.
The venue will open its doors in mid-September at 177 Morning Lane, marking Elliott Kaye’s return to the hospitality sector more than 12 months after Norman’s ceased operations.
The address previously housed establishments called Nest and Big Night before this latest venture took over the space.
While the venue’s social media presence remains minimal regarding specifics, Kaye informed The Standard that the concept would remain unpretentious and accessible.
The drinks programme centres on traditional cocktail offerings, complemented by a regularly changing house martini selection and wines.
Spanish brew Victoria Málaga will be available in the smaller caña glass format.
The food menu features devilled crab rarebit, pork schnitzel Holstein adorned with a fried egg, alongside traditional cheeseburger options and sandwich selections such as a tuna melt variety.
Sunday morning brunch service encompasses smoked ham paired with sage-fried eggs, a fried fish sandwich and baked eggs prepared with vodka sauce.
Norman’s Cafe originally launched as a contemporary take on the traditional greasy spoon, established by Kaye alongside business partner Richie Hayes.
The interior design incorporated red and white check-patterned curtains alongside black and white flooring tiles, drawing inspiration from classic working men’s cafes.
The establishment served beans on toast priced at six pounds.
The decision to shut Norman’s Cafe came last June following five years of trading at the Junction Road location.
At that time, the owners described the choice as extraordinarily difficult and expressed their intention to continue building upon the foundation they had established through alternative projects.
Specific interior design concepts for Marrion’s remain undisclosed, with further details anticipated upon the venue’s mid-September opening.
Marrion’s is located at 177 Morning Lane, London E9.
