The Prime Minister has suspended his official programme for two days following the death of his father.

Roy Burnham passed away at the age of 86 after a prolonged illness.

The elder Mr Burnham had been battling Alzheimer’s disease for some time.

According to reports, he died on September 14, with all of his son’s engagements for that day and the following one subsequently cancelled.

In a previous interview with The Times conducted before taking up residence in Downing Street in July, the Prime Minister had spoken about the personal impact of his father’s condition.

He explained that his father’s illness meant he would be unable to comprehend his son’s political achievements.

He described this as a source of profound sorrow, noting that his father would otherwise have taken pride in these accomplishments.

He also characterised the success as belonging to the entire family, despite his father’s inability to recognise it.

The Prime Minister has indicated that he intends to prioritise reforms to the adult social care system in England.

He has referenced his father’s experiences with care as a motivating factor.

The current state of social care in England has been described by him as inadequate, and he has indicated that addressing this issue represents a significant concern for citizens.

Following the announcement of Roy Burnham’s death, numerous individuals shared their sympathies on social media platforms.

Messages of support were directed towards the Prime Minister and his family.

Among those offering public condolences was Reform councillor Samantha Gethen, who stated that the moment called for compassion and extended her wishes to the entire family.
