Hackney Secures Up to £1.3m to Expand Youth Services for Young People

Published on

A funding package of up to £1.3 million has been secured by Hackney Council to enhance provisions for young people across the borough over the next two years.

The investment, allocated through the government’s Young Futures Hubs programme, will enable Young Hackney to collaborate with community organisations to extend the reach of its youth facilities and outreach activities.

The resources will facilitate direct connections between young residents and services targeting their most pressing needs.

In addition to offering unrestricted access to sporting programmes, artistic pursuits and qualified youth workers, the scheme will provide pathways to mental health assistance, vocational development, career opportunities and measures to prevent involvement in criminal activity.

Young Hackney will engage with young people and various community partners to determine the allocation of the additional funding.

The borough reportedly experiences elevated levels of child poverty, with significant numbers of young people not engaged in schooling or employment.

The funding represents a pledge to provide robustly financed youth services aimed at giving every young person a solid foundation for their future.

A commitment had previously been made to boost investment in youth facilities within Hackney, and the new allocation demonstrates progress in fulfilling that promise, according to council statements.

Young Hackney operates a network comprising four youth centres and five adventure playgrounds.

These facilities are available at no cost to individuals aged between 10 and 19, as well as those up to 25 years old with special educational needs or disabilities.

The service also provides funding to numerous voluntary sector youth organisations throughout the area.

Assistance is provided across domains including schooling, job prospects, accommodation and medical wellbeing, alongside specialized initiatives designed to support young people who may be at risk of engaging in antisocial conduct or criminal behaviour.
