Olympic diver Noah Williams helped launch a new budget supermarket in east London on Friday, marking his return to the area where he grew up.

Williams, who secured silver and bronze medals at this summer’s Paris Games, officially opened the Aldi branch in Hoxton.

Pupils from Prior Weston Primary School, the athlete’s former school, joined the ceremony to mark the occasion.

The first 30 people in the queue were handed complimentary bags containing fresh produce from Aldi’s Super 6 range as the store welcomed its inaugural customers.

Store manager Alice Allen expressed satisfaction with the event, noting that the morning had been well received and that the team looked forward to engaging with more residents in the weeks ahead.

She also highlighted the retailer’s partnership with Prior Weston Primary School through the Get Set to Eat Fresh initiative.

Following the opening ceremony, Williams delivered a presentation at Prior Weston School on Whitecross Street in Islington.

The Get Set to Eat Fresh programme is designed to teach children between five and fourteen years old about preparing meals using fresh, nutritious ingredients.

During the session, Williams discussed his path to Olympic competition, emphasised the value of self-belief, and explained how Aldi has provided monthly vouchers to Team GB athletes since 2015.

As part of the celebrations, students from Prior Weston were invited to create artwork depicting their understanding of healthy eating, with the winning entry receiving a twenty-pound Aldi gift voucher.

Williams presented the prize to the victor during the assembly.

The Hoxton outlet represents Aldi’s debut in the neighbourhood and employs fourteen local residents under Ms Allen’s management.

The premises include expansive refrigeration units containing British-produced meat, a ready-to-eat food section near the entrance, and a dedicated health and beauty department.

The retailer is also encouraging local charitable organisations and food banks to enrol with Neighbourly, a service that links companies with community groups.

Registered charities can collect surplus stock, including fresh produce and bakery items, throughout the week.

The store trades from 211 Hackney Road, London, E2 8NA.

Operating hours run from eight in the morning until ten at night from Monday through Saturday, with Sunday trading restricted to eleven in the morning through five in the afternoon.
