A new intake of participants is being sought for a running initiative that will enable fifty residents from east London to compete in a sold-out half marathon event.

The 2027 HOKA Hackney Academy has been established to assist local inhabitants in preparing for and completing the HOKA Hackney Half, accommodating individuals at any experience level.

The scheme supplies coaching expertise, regular group training sessions, running apparel, and a complimentary entry place in the oversubscribed race.

Ian Allerton, representing Motiv Sports UK which organises the HOKA Hackney Moves occasion, conveyed that the initiative ranks among the organisation’s most significant community achievements.

He noted that annually, remarkable individuals attend the initial session uncertain of their place within a running community, yet subsequently cross the Hackney Half finish line months later having accomplished objectives they previously considered unattainable.

He described the programme as extending beyond running itself, encompassing confidence-building, social connections, wellbeing improvements, and generating prospects for local residents to participate in something distinctive.

He expressed enthusiasm about welcoming another fifty individuals to this experience in 2027.

Now entering its third iteration, the initiative forms part of the broader HOKA Hackney Moves festival.

The scheme prioritises individuals who are beginners to running or those resuming after experiencing injury, illness, or diminished self-assurance.

Participants undertake a twelve-week preparation schedule and obtain continuous assistance within a communal setting.

Jannat, a Hackney local and youth support practitioner who joined the 2026 edition, reported that the academy proved transformative for her circumstances.

She received a Type 2 diabetes diagnosis at age twenty-eight, yet managed to reverse the condition within five months through modifications to her lifestyle, ultimately shedding thirty-six kilograms over the course of a year.

The initiative remains accessible to east London adults who are newcomers to running or resuming after a prolonged interruption and can dedicate themselves to regular training commitments.

Its objective involves demonstrating that running remains available to everyone irrespective of background or prior experience.

The HOKA Hackney Half ranks among the United Kingdom’s most prominent running occasions, attracting many thousands of competitors and supporters annually as part of the extended Hackney Moves festival.
