Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood describes being stabbed on holiday

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has spoken about being attacked with a knife while on a break in Madrid.

The 61-year-old performer and TV star discussed the frightening experience during an episode of the Judgemental podcast, which he presents alongside fellow Strictly judge Anton Du Beke.

Mr Horwood recalled the incident, saying he had been enjoying a trip to the Spanish city when the assault occurred in very hot weather.

During the attack, his accessories were also taken, including a necklace that was torn from around his neck.

Describing what happened, he explained it involved a razor blade and resulted in a slash wound to his abdomen. He had been heading back from a nightclub at approximately 2am, noting that such late-night outings were typical when dining at 10 or 11pm.

At the time, Mr Horwood had been spending time in the Spanish capital while fulfilling dance work commitments at the Paris Lido.

The trouble persisted even after he departed Spain, as French border officials subjected him to a personal search upon his return.

He noted he appeared dishevelled, having not shaved, and bore burn injuries around his neck from the assault. He described how the French authorities removed all his clothing during the search, checking for narcotics.

Mr Horwood also recounted a separate disastrous holiday experience in Mombasa, Kenya.

The journey, which he had been anticipating, began to go wrong as soon as his plane touched down.

He explained that despite all accommodation being settled beforehand and transport arranged from the airfield, upon arrival they were informed their hotel had been destroyed by fire.

He added that nobody had thought to alert them to this situation until they were actually there.

The following day, the entire group found themselves queuing at the airport to depart. One after another, people collapsed dramatically on the spot.

It subsequently emerged the party had contracted salmonella food poisoning from poultry consumed the previous evening.
