The electronic act Maribou State brought their touring cycle to a close with an emotionally charged headline appearance at the Lido Festival in Victoria Park.
The show, which featured Chris Davids and Liam Ivory performing together, also signalled the beginning of a prolonged break from live performances for the duo.
The concert, held following the completion of their Hallucinating Love tour, could represent their last stage appearance for some time.
During the event, Ivory explained that the timing felt appropriate to pause rather than immediately beginning another round of performances as the group had traditionally done.
He noted that the most recent album had emerged during a period of personal health challenges, and it would feel contradictory to promote a record centred on perseverance only to then exhaust himself by jumping straight into new commitments.
Ivory expressed a desire to allocate sufficient time for physical and mental recovery, along with establishing a lifestyle not entirely governed by performance schedules.
The revelation infused the evening with additional emotional weight, elevating the occasion beyond a standard festival closing slot into a heartfelt goodbye for an act whose following has expanded considerably in recent years.
The group delivered on promises of their most ambitious production to date, employing a complete choir and orchestral arrangement to create an experience that engaged audiences both visually and sonically.
Vocalists Andreya Triana and Talulah Ruby offered notable contributions, while selections such as Midas and Blackoak generated strong responses from those in attendance.
Earlier proceedings at the festival featured an varied roster, including drum and bass pioneers Calibre and LTJ Bukem, whose composition Atlantis proved particularly memorable.
House and disco performers Collect 200 maintained high energy levels throughout their slot, while Welsh artist Kelly Lee Owens presented an entrancing set that incorporated Underworld’s Born Slippy.
Kelis commanded the main stage with a selection of popular tracks, among them Milkshake and Bounce.
Although the venue did not achieve maximum capacity, those present demonstrated genuine enthusiasm and active participation, contributing to an unforgettable ambiance.
As Maribou State concluded beneath cascading white confetti, the atmosphere of conclusion was unmistakable.
Should this have represented their final stage appearance, it served as a compelling and appropriate swansong.
