London schools can win £5,000 in Leyland’s Big School Makeover competition

London’s educational institutions have another opportunity to secure funding for facility improvements, as a national decorating and DIY retailer expands its annual schools initiative for the fourth consecutive year.

Leyland has opened nominations for its Big School Makeover programme, which distributes a combined £10,000 among participating schools in the capital.

The primary prize stands at £5,000 worth of products from the company, while two additional schools will each receive £2,500.

According to the company’s leadership, community involvement forms a cornerstone of the organisation’s values.

The scheme provides a mechanism for supporting local educational establishments while fostering neighbourhood connections around a shared objective.

Representatives have observed the meaningful difference such awards can make for schools and anticipate seeing innovative nominations that reflect local pride and imagination.

The nomination period begins at the start of September, with ten schools subsequently selected to proceed to the next stage.

Residents and community members will then have the opportunity to cast their votes online beginning mid-October, with the ballot closing in mid-November.

The school accumulating the highest number of public votes claims the main prize.

Last year’s competition attracted substantial participation, with over 13,000 individual votes recorded.

Anson Primary School in Cricklewood emerged victorious, securing nearly 3,000 of those votes.

The funding enabled the school to tackle essential repairs in older structures and develop educational programmes centred on environmental sustainability.

School leadership noted that the award represented an effective method of raising the institution’s profile while strengthening ties with families and local residents, and that the financial contribution allowed existing budgets to be directed more heavily toward instructional resources.

The two schools finishing as runners-up in the previous edition operated in different areas of the city.

La Retraite Roman Catholic School for Girls served the south London community, while Brunswick Park Primary School represented the north of the capital.

Each received £2,500 in products to support their respective projects.

With multiple outlets distributed throughout London, Leyland maintains an established presence serving professional tradespeople, householders, and community organisations across the metropolitan area.

Applications for the 2026 programme remain accessible until the third week of September through the company’s official website.
