Authorities have taken into custody an adult male and an adolescent in relation to the popular social media phenomenon known as the “London Red vs Blue school wars.”
The Metropolitan Police detained a man in his twenties and a 15-year-old youth in the Central East London area at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.
Both individuals were apprehended on grounds of suspected encouragement or facilitation of criminal activity, and are currently being held by law enforcement.
According to police, the detentions concern a recent wave of social media content that urged students to participate in violent confrontations with one another.
The broader “Red vs Blue” movement involved content on TikTok and Snapchat that portrayed after-school gatherings as clashes between opposing schools, separating students into teams identified by colors.
Certain circulating content mentioned bringing items such as compasses and metal combs, leading to advisories from educational institutions and heightened police visibility throughout multiple boroughs.
In certain districts, guardians were recommended to pick up their children directly from school entrances as a safety measure, and Section 35 dispersal orders were enacted.
Law enforcement has not stated whether additional detentions are anticipated.
A representative for the Metropolitan Police stated: “On Sunday, March 1, at approximately 18:45 hours, Metropolitan officers detained two individuals in Central East London regarding a recent wave of social media content.
Both suspects, a man in his twenties and a boy aged 15, were apprehended on suspicion of encouraging or assisting in an offense.
They remain in police custody.
A significant police presence continues to be maintained near schools, particularly during dismissal times.
Local officers persist in collaborating with local authority partners, school administrators and parents, whose collective firm response has been essential in safeguarding young people throughout the past week.
