Hackney cyclists can now benefit from the cheapest Lime e-bike rates in the capital, after the local authority struck a deal with the operator.

The fixed-price offer slashes the cost of a pay-as-you-go 25-minute trip from £8.75 down to £1.75, positioning it among London’s most budget-friendly ways to get around. Beyond that initial period, users are charged 31p for each additional minute.

Councillor Sarah Young, who oversees Climate Change, Environment, and Transport, stated that the initiative makes pedalling more accessible and wallet-friendly than ever before. She explained that the flat rate, priced similarly to bus fares, encourages more locals to opt for cycling when travelling short distances.

Those wishing to take advantage of the reduced price must register through the website and confirm their Hackney residency. Upon validation, the concession automatically attaches to their Lime account.

Residents have previously been able to enjoy £1.75 trips lasting up to half an hour through Voi, thanks to the Voi4Hackney scheme launched last year. Once that half-hour window expires, Voi users pay 20p per minute.

The council is also collaborating with the e-bike companies to ensure proper parking practices. Users will only be allowed to abandon their cycles in approved bays, with 400 such zones scheduled for installation before December.

Cllr Young pointed out that as warmer months approach, demand for dockless cycling services is set to rise considerably. She noted that rigorous safeguards have been implemented to guarantee appropriate usage and parking, and that the authority intends to maintain pressure on operators to meet standards.
