Hackney Chronicle: Nine new 100kW rapid EV chargers are now live across Hackney, marking the start of the council’s plan to install more than 50 rapid chargers by 2030.

Nine new EV rapid chargers are now live in Hackney, marking the start of a wider roll-out to support cleaner transport. This launch is part of Hackney Council’s plan to install more than 50 rapid chargers by 2030, making it easier for residents and businesses to switch to electric vehicles. The new ESB Energy chargers have a power output of up to 100kW, enabling 30-minute recharges, and are designed to be fully accessible for larger vehicles, including commercial vans and delivery vehicles. "By rolling out rapid chargers across the borough, we’re supporting more residents and businesses to consider switching to electric vehicles. And this means cleaner air and quieter streets for everyone." The council is working in partnership with ESB Energy, which owns and operates a growing network of fast and rapid chargers across London, Birmingham and Coventry, as well as ultra rapid charging hubs throughout Great Britain. Eligible Hackney residents with EV parking permits will benefit from discounted rates through the Hackney Light and Power plan on the ESB Energy EV Plug In app. The plan includes a heavily discounted overnight rapid charging rate between 1am and 5am, and a preferential charging day rate on all local Hackney rapid chargers. All chargers use 100 per cent renewable energy and will be installed in existing parking bays to maximise convenience. ESB Energy’s head of developing business, Suzanne Ward, said: "We’re proud to partner with Hackney Council to deliver a new generation of accessible, rapid EV chargers across the borough—powered entirely by 100 per cent renewable energy. "Reliable charging infrastructure is essential to accelerating the shift to cleaner transport, and we’re committed to supporting Hackney in building a future-ready EV network that serves residents, businesses, and the wider community." The new chargers are located at 47 and 96 Downham Road (De Beauvoir), 224 Crozier Terrace (Hackney Wick), 2 King John Court (Hoxton East and Shoreditch), Alexandra Grove (Brownswood), 87 Stoke Newington Church Street (Stoke Newington), and 1 Haberdasher Street (Hoxton West).
