Barclays and Tesco have announced a new partnership providing drivers with 5% cashback on fuel purchases throughout the summer months.
The promotion runs from May 1st through to the end of July and covers petrol and diesel expenditure between £5 and £200 at Tesco petrol stations, provided customers use a qualifying Barclays debit card.
The launch timing coincides neatly with the start of bank holiday travel periods, when fuel expenditure tends to increase significantly.
Motorists must register through the Barclays mobile application, after which cashback payments are generally processed within two days and deposited straight into account holders’ current accounts.
The initiative arrives as fuel expenditure shows no signs of decreasing, placing additional strain on family finances even as overall economic sentiment remains relatively positive.
While the monthly cashback limit stands at £10, the additional funds represent a meaningful contribution to drivers’ budgets given current fuel pricing levels.
Vim Maru, who serves as chief executive of Barclays UK, stated that the collaboration with Tesco enables the bank to provide fuel savings during a period of mounting expenses, allowing customers to maximise the value of their money.
He noted that this programme complements the £200 switching incentive available to prospective customers opening a new Barclays current account.
Tesco UK chief executive Ashwin Prasad commented that shoppers throughout Britain will now benefit from cashback whenever they refuel their vehicles at Tesco locations using their Barclays debit card.
