A compact Korean eatery has just earned a prestigious Michelin distinction and is now revealing its fresh seasonal offerings.
The married couple behind Calong in Stoke Newington are capitalising on the buzz generated by their Bib Gourmand recognition last month.
The gastronomic guide’s evaluators award this designation to chosen neighbourhood establishments that deliver outstanding quality relative to their prices.
Calong occupies a 30-cover venue on Stoke Newington Church Street that launched in February 2025.
Joo Won and Sujin Won established their 30-seat venue on Stoke Newington Church Street twelve months prior after operating a succession of temporary establishments.
Joo previously served as head chef at the Michelin-starred Galvin at Windows, while Sujin brings experience from The Wolseley, The Delaunay and Fischer’s in Marylebone.
Within under a year they have garnered acclaim from figures such as the Financial Times food critic for standout plates including fried poultry with sweet chilli and peanut, or grilled pork jeyuk accompanied by apple kimchi and ssamjang dipping sauce.
Calong presents European-style cuisine infused with Korean taste profiles.
Four fresh selections are now available, each blending Korean ingredients with western cooking methods.
Patrons may select entrees such as asparagus, cucumber and muchim salad dressed with yuza and tofu sauce, or wok-tossed glass noodles combined with tropea onion, pea shoot and wild garlic.
Also on offer is a gentle pan-cooked hake alongside mushroom and seaweed dashi, plus roast lamb saddle with gochujang, lettuce and fresh herbs.
These novel plates will sit alongside existing favourites like Calong’s baked Alaska dessert.
Guests can as always complement their meal with the venue’s selection of low-intervention ethical white, orange and red wines sourced from small independent winemakers.
Calong welcomes guests for evening service Wednesday through Saturday and serves lunch on Friday through Sunday at 35 Stoke Newington Church Street. wwwcalonglondon.com
