I traded my mattress for a sleeping bag on the floor of a London venue for one evening.
Last week I joined several coworkers in exchanging comfort for a cause advocating transformation.

The overnight stay demonstrated unity with Centrepoint, the nation’s primary charity addressing youth homelessness, which assists individuals aged 16 to 25.
The organisation, established in the capital during December 1969, originally operated as accommodation for street-living young people in a church’s lower level.
Its operations have expanded considerably in response to persistent youth homelessness, with Centrepoint now believed to support over 15,000 individuals annually as they progress toward greater self-sufficiency.
It should be emphasised that the overnight experience does not seek to imitate homelessness itself, but rather to highlight this significant societal problem.

Our contingent set up after midnight, unfurling mats and adding numerous clothing layers to ward off the chill.
One of the frequently overlooked advantages we sometimes take for granted is having a heated mattress, although this advantage was brought into sharp relief for each of us as we settled into our sleeping bags.
What we did possess, nonetheless, was the reassurance that we had a residence and proper bed awaiting us at dawn.
Following what amounted to a shared handful of hours of rest, we rose with aching muscles, soreness, and exhaustion.
It proved an uncomfortable evening, yet that served as the entire purpose.
Within the period spanning 2024 to 2025, in excess of 118,000 young people experienced rooflessness.
This translates to approximately one individual every four minutes finding themselves without shelter through no personal fault, doing so lacking the arrangements we enjoyed.
This is precisely why Centrepoint’s mission holds such vital importance.
Owing to generous contributions, Newsquest London managed to collect almost £2,500 to back Centrepoint’s programmes as it pursues its ambition to eliminate youth homelessness by 2037.
